Our Lebanese national football team lost to the United Arab Emirates in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match played in Abu Dhabi. Despite the loss, Lebanon may still qualify to play in the 2014 World Cup thanks to the loss of Kuwait to South Korea.
The Phoenix has finally spread its wings and set its destination to Brazil. I couldn’t watch the game but I cheered with every result update. When I went home I wanted to know details about the match and the more I read or saw, the more I wish I had the chance to watch it.
I am even more proud of the amazing Mahmoud El Ali, the footballer from Tripoli who was severely injured in the match right after he had scored the first goal. He forced himself to go back and play but it seems it was too painful to do so.
Everyone was also wondering why hasn’t Ziad El Samad the goal keeper (also a champion from Tripoli) taken any part in the game especially after the accidental friendly fired goal by Abbas Hassan.
The final step is going to be between June 2012 till June 2013. We still don’t know who’s playing with us. The choices vary from Jordan, Iraq, Japan, Australia to Uzbekistan. Till then, stay tuned and keep your heads up. Mabrouk Lebnen!
