I know I’m 5 years late in commenting or giving feedback for this Lebanese movie that was released in 2006, but I watched it two days ago and I loved it!

What I liked genuinely is the story of “The runaway falafel”.  Tou (Toufic) the main character is asked to choose a falafel ball among many because the falafel guy didn’t have the exact change to return. After he took one, and all of a sudden the falafel guy grabs his hand violently and told him that he chose a very rare and exceptional falafel “The runaway falafel”! He said that it’s the nature of the falafel ball to float on the surface of the boiling oil, however, there’s one that defies the laws of gravity and jumps out of the frying pan and fries in an odd way, from the inside out: “The runaway falafel”. When Tou (Toufic), the main character laughs, the falafel guy claims that there are 100 people who swear that in the island of Sumatra once, it rained Falafel for 30 straight minutes over poor areas. Tou takes his sandwich and leaves and the guy shouts: Be the runaway falafel, Tou!

I love how the whole movie, revolved about this story through the life of Toufic in a summer night . I love how it rained Falafel in Beirut & that Tou had two bites from two different falafel balls to believe it. I love how famous actors like Rafic Ali Ahmad, Hyam Abou Chedid & Ammar Chalak played very minor roles but were the added value to the movie & that Elie Mitri (Toufic) has become a name to remember…

The movie can’t but have an open end. But judging from the nature of Tou, he’ll certainly be “The runaway Falafel”….
